Frequently Asked Questions

Is surgery covered by insurance ?

Premium lens implants and laser vision correction are not covered by insurance as they are considered cosmetic. Contact a surgical coordinator to answer any insurance questions about cataract or refractive surgery.

Are my glasses covered by insurance?

Our office does NOT accept vision insurance. Refractions, which finalize your glasses prescription, are $50 but some insurances do cover that fee; please ask one of our front desk staff if you have questions about coverage. We also DO NOT have an optical to sell or repair glasses. You can take your glasses prescription to any optical/optician that you choose.

Where will my Surgery be?

Dr. Dexter performs cataract surgery at Specialty Surgery Center at 225 Greenfield Parkway suite 105; off Buckley rd. It is an outpatient procedure and you will be there for a few hours. You will need to have someone bring you to and from the surgery center the day of the procedure. If you have any other questions about surgery, please call the office to speak with a surgical coordinator.

Do you see emergencies?

Yes. If you are having a true medical emergency you should call 911 or go to the emergency room.   If you need to be seen during normal office hours please call and our staff will do their best to get you seen as soon as possible. For established patients, if you have an issue after hours, you will be connected to our answering service and the on call physician will assist you.

Do you fit contact lenses?

No. We do not do contact lens exams or fittings. We cannot fill or write contact lens prescriptions or order contact lens trials. It is ok to wear your contacts to your appointment but will be asked to take them out and should have a back up pair of glasses with you.

When can I drive after the surgery?

The answer varies for every patient. This will be discussed during your surgical evaluation.
